Askapade Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 September 2026
Askapade Ltd is the data controller for the personal data described here. This policy covers the text service and the web app.
What we collect
You give us: first name, last name, date of birth, email address, mobile number, country, and a profile photograph. The words you write in an Ask, an offer, a chat message or a review.
Stripe collects, we do not see: your card details, your bank details, and the identity documents and facial-likeness check used to verify you. Stripe tells us only whether verification passed and whether you can be paid. We never hold a card number or an identity document.
Generated as you use it: which Asks you were sent and whether you replied, Asks you posted, offers made, completions, ratings, and a log of every text in and out.
From Twilio: delivery status for each message.
We do not collect location, contacts or device identifiers. We do not use advertising trackers.
Why, and on what basis
| What | Why | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Name, photo, last initial | Shown to others so people know who they are dealing with | Contract |
| Date of birth | Confirming you are 18 | Legal obligation |
| Mobile number | The service runs on it | Contract |
| Account notices and, separately, marketing | Contract / consent | |
| Identity verification (required within 24 hours of registration) | Safeguarding, fraud prevention, and paying you | Legal obligation, legitimate interests |
| Ask, offer and chat content | Delivering the service and resolving disputes | Contract, legitimate interests |
| Message log | Proving what was sent, honouring opt-outs, billing | Legitimate interests, legal obligation |
| Ratings and reviews | Trust between users | Contract, legitimate interests |
What others see
Everyone active sees, on every Ask you post: your first name, last initial, and what you wrote.
Someone choosing between offers sees, for each person who offered: first name, last initial, photograph, average rating and number of completed Asks. Never your surname, email, phone number or date of birth.
Once an Ask is agreed, the two of you chat through the app. Your number is not shared with the other person at any point.
Who we share it with
- Stripe — payments, payouts and identity verification
- Twilio — sending and receiving text messages
- Supabase — database and photo storage
- Render, Vercel — hosting
- Loops — email, once connected
Each is a processor acting on our instructions, except Stripe, which is a controller in its own right for payments and identity. We do not sell your data and never will.
We disclose data to the police or a regulator where we are required to, or where somebody's safety is at risk.
Where it is held
Within the UK and the EEA, except where a supplier processes data in the United States under standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
How long we keep it
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Account and profile | While your account exists, then 30 days |
| Ask, offer and chat history | 6 years from the Ask, for tax and disputes |
| Payment records | 6 years (HMRC) |
| Identity verification | Held by Stripe under their retention rules |
| Message log | 2 years |
| Opt-out record | Kept indefinitely — it is how we know not to text you |
| Marketing contact | Until you unsubscribe, then a suppression record |
An opt-out record survives account deletion by design. Deleting it would mean texting somebody who told us to stop.
Your rights
Access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, and objection to processing based on legitimate interests. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@askapade.com. We respond within one month.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority for data protection in the United Kingdom.
Messages and marketing
Service texts — Asks, offers, payment notices — are part of the service. Text STOP to stop all of them, PAUSE to stop new Asks only, ON to resume.
Marketing emails are separate and consent-based. Unsubscribing from them does not stop service texts, and stopping texts does not by itself unsubscribe you from email. Each is controlled on its own.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Photographs are served through links which expire. Access to production data is restricted to those who require it for the operation of the service.
Children
Askapade is not for under-18s. If we learn an account belongs to one we delete it.
Changes
Material changes are notified by text or email before they take effect.
